We are going to be looking at the following:
Entitlements under a Collective Agreement
National Insurance Benefits
Workmen’s Compensation
Personal Injury claims
Criminal Injuries Compensation
If there is a Recognised Majority Union where you work, look and see what is in the Collective Agreement.
If there is no recognised union at your workplace, find out about your trade union rights and how to get organised.
Your employer has a legal responsibility to deduct National Insurance contributions and pay it to the National Insurance Board. This gives you an entitlement to benefits including employment injury benefits.
Once you have an accident "arising out of and in the course of your employment" you will be covered by Workmen's Compensation. Workmen's Compensation is an insurance policy that employers are legally required to take out.
